UPDATE: Storm is now a category 3 hurricane

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Tropical storm Matthew that was earlier issued for Jamaica has now been upgraded to a warning as tropical hurricane including possible sustained wind speeds of 74-95km/h, are expected to affect the island in 36 hours or less.

Officials have also made an appeal for business operators to open shops and food outlets to facilitate members of the public who may wish to stock up on emergency supplies.

The Met Service says that flash flooding is, therefore, likely to spread across the island tomorrow, especially over low-lying areas of southern parishes.
